The magnification device

The project

Purdue EPICS (Engineering Projects in Community Service) builds hardware for community partners. This team develops a low-cost magnification device for visually impaired users, where unit cost and usability constrain the design as hard as any structural requirement.

What I did

  • Redesigned 3 parts in Autodesk Fusion, reducing weight while increasing stiffness
  • Iterated 4 printed prototypes of a screen housing to converge on a design meeting both fit and strength requirements
